On 27th and 28th March 2017, SmartCanes were made available to 20 young visually challenged individuals in Mahabaleshwar, who are engaged in the business of making and selling unique designs of candles in the local markets. As the nature of their work requires them to move around a lot, these individuals were extremely happy after receiving the SmartCane device and the training to use it, and they felt that it can significantly increase their safety and independence by providing them protection against obstacles. An emotional Meena (one of the user who got the SmartCane) said that this device will help me to protect myself from socially ocward situations that I have to face often, and this will really change my life. A special thanks to Rotary Club of Pune for helping us to make a difference in the lives of more and more people through their valuable support, and to Mr. Bhavesh Bhatia (founder of the candle making business that only employs persons with disability) for facilitating the organisation of this event.
Furthermore,in yet another workshop which was conducted in Kothrud in Pune district, 50 female senior school students and those pursuing different vocational courses at School and Home for the Blind Girls were given training on safe and independent mobility with SmartCane.
